Recommended Sukkot Days Out in Israel

Sukkot is a week-long Jewish festival which falls shortly after Yom Kippur.

Sukkot in Israel is a time of vacation – the first and last days are national holidays when most businesses will be closed (similar to a regular Shabbat), whilst the intermediary days are normal business days except for the fact that many Israelis take the time off work. The result is that there are lots of activities for Sukkot across Israel so it is a great time to be visiting. The Sukkot festival in 2014 falls between 8 to 15 October 2014 although the events also take place slightly before and after these dates.

Sukkot World Festival

October 2-3, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Winter Lake Park, South Netanya. Entrance: Free
Come visit the world’s largest sukkah and dozens of sukkahs from around the world, and also enjoy performances by Moshe Peretz, Lior Narkis, Yuval Hamebulbal, Mickey, Hadod Chaim, Tal Mosseri and others…

Beit Hatfutsot in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs, and the municipality of Netanya will once again stage the highly successful Sukkot World Festival during the intermediary days of Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles). Tens of sukkot (Hebrew plural for Sukkah – Tabernacle) representing Jewish communities from around the world will be presented in a maze-like arrangement, making it the largest structure of its kind in the world.

The Sukkot will be designed in keeping with the countries they represent, creating a truly international feel to the festival. Visitors will be invited to take a peek into the story of diverse communities by viewing performances, images and artifacts and by taking part in experiential activities and craft workshops representing these communities. United States, Argentina, Brazil, Australia, Great Britain, Italy, France, Germany, Turkey, Russia, Ethiopia, Morocco, Tunisia and South Africa will all be represented at this year’s Sukkot World Festival.
