Look out for all the succahs (temporary foliage-covered and decorated booths) which will be springing up on balconies and in communal gardens throughout the area.
The seven day festival (8 days outside Israel) celebrates the gathering of the harvest and commemorates the miraculous protection G‑d provided for the children of Israel when they left Egypt and the time when we complete and re-start the reading of the Torah (5 books of the Old Testament). It is a joyful celebration, shops, restaurants and schools will be closed on Monday 14th and 21st October and there is no public transportation either on those days. Public transport will also cease around 3pm on Sunday 13th and Sunday 20th October. CHAG SAMEACH
